Point of care and automated flow cytometry in prediction of sepsis development

The hypothesis will be tested that point-of-care automated cellular diagnostics is of value for diagnosis of early-stage sepsis and can be used for prediction of  in the clinical course of sepsis in the ED and follow-up samples in the CW. Biomarkers expressed by inflammatory cells (monocytes/neutrophils) will be measured with the AQUIOS flow cytometer. Patient characteristics and outcome measurements will be recorded via the SPACE-cohort (SePsis in ACutely ill patients at the Emergency department). If successful, a prediction model will be built and tested  in a large trial supporting implementation of this type of cellular diagnostics in sepsis management.
